The Ladybug faces her biggest fashion fear

The Ladybug Chronicles Try-Day Friday (6)

Let’s have a break from Munich (but not from outfits!) just to celebrate this special Try-Day Friday! This is an outfit post with a story and with some important message for me and for all my beautiful readers.

But let’s start from the beginning: a few months ago, before going on holiday, I spent a lovely Sunday with my friends; we went for a brunch in a beautiful location in Milan (the Fuorimano, amazing place and delicious brunch!) and then we enjoyed a beautiful tour of the colored vintage houses of the Quartiere Arcobaleno in Milan. As the locations were pretty interesting and my favorite photographer was there with his camera, we organized a lovely photo-shoot to share on my blog and social media.

I didn’t share until today and there is a reason for that: I was facing one of my biggest fashion fears ever…the naked belly! When I woke up that morning I was in a very good mood: I was about to leave for my summer holidays and I felt particularly fashion fearless. I then wore one of my favorite African wax tops from Heka Couture, an amazing couture piece that I usually wear with high-waisted bottoms (as it is quite short and I need to cover my not fabulously toned belly), with a normal waist jeans from Zara. It didn’t feel too bad, until I saw the pictures: they were amazing but I kept focusing on these few centimeters of belly appearing between my top and my jeans, screaming something like: “you are fat”!!!

I decided then to leave these pictures there for a while, until I was maybe feeling better about them. I came back to these photographs a couple of times in the meanwhile but nothing, the scream was still there.

As I don’t believe in coincidences (everything happens for a reason!), while lazily surfing on Instagram the other day, I found out about Dia&Co Try-Day Friday… Their message is very simple: beauty is not a matter of size or centimeters, you are beautiful no matter what size is written on the tag. They promote the Try-Day Friday attitude, supporting women to wear at least once a week something that scares them and to feel comfortable with it.

There is a lot of talking around body shaming and body positive attitude lately and my personal slogan is “curvy does it better”, but all my positive body ideas, all my talking about beauty coming from the inside and from self-acceptance and self-love just fell down in front of these few centimeters of fat belly.

I spent a couple of days with this idea in mind: how is it that I am super positive about other people curvy bodies and self-love and I am so critical about myself? After a few days I found the answer, but more importantly I found the action to face and to overcome this stupid fear: it was time to share with the world my naked belly pictures! I am not scared of other people’s opinion about me and maybe, some of you with similar fashion and body fears will find the strength to do the same!

I understood that I am not defined by the amount of fat on my body and that my body is not defined by the models that are everywhere on TV, magazines and Internet. I choose to embrace my fat, my cellulite, my wrinkles because it is me, and I am super proud of myself!

The Ladybug and the White Shirt, the story continues: discovering Balossa SS2016 collection at White Trade Show

The Ladybug Chronicles Balossa White Shirt (9)

During the Milan Fashion Week one of my favorite stop-overs is the White Trade Show: I love this place not only because it gives you a forward-looking idea of what will be on next year but mostly because you discover many new interesting brands. In fact when I get back home I have my bag full of business cards and I spend a lot of time online to visit sites, Facebook and Instagram pages!

But it is also an occasion to visit some of my favorite brands and to see which surprise they prepared for my little happy eyes! It was the case of my adored Balossa White Shirt, one of my favorite brands ever (especially because they have wonderful handmade shirts, that I adore, but this you already know!) founded by the talented designer Indra Kaffemanaite, who presented the new SS2016 collection a few weeks ago at White Trade Show in Milan.

As usual it was a pleasure to meet Indra because she is such a sweetheart and she takes a lot of time explaining every single piece with such a passion that you feel like falling in love every time she takes a new shirt from the hanger. But I have to say that the 2016 Spring Summer collection managed to amaze me maybe even more than the last one, when I first met her. The beautiful shirts of this collection reach a new level of deconstruction leading to new experiments and breaking the rules in a totally unexpected way. Balossa plays with volumes and lines creating real art sculptures with surprising details: cut-outs, draperies, asymmetries and the most original detail, sleeves and collars everywhere except where you expect to find them! You can find sleeves as belts or pussy bows, collars as pockets (or inside pockets) or as details all along the shirt, shirts as dresses or jackets: the freedom of creativity is strong and refreshing. Eccentricity becomes sensual and bold at the same time.

Every Balossa shirt is a statement piece!

The shirts of this collection are made with selected Italian cotton, so that they are soft and fresh (a real pleasure to wear) with a touch of sheer every now and then. White is the main color but the new shades of blue and pale pink are perfect for summer (I am really in love with the blue shade, very hard to find and extremely sexy).

I am not surprised that during the White Trade Show, Balossa received the Inside White award from Izumi Ogino, designer of the maison Anteprima. She chose Balossa because of their shapes, cuts and volumes that represent a perfect mix of Italian and Japanese styles. I can’t agree more with her!

I try to show you some of my favorite pieces here but believe me, it was very hard to pick up only a few of them!

For the day I wore a Balossa asymmetric white shirt, of course!, with Acne Studios skinny jeans, vintage Escada yellow shoes from Epiphany vintage and thrift store in Frankfurt, handmade African earrings and Balenciaga bag.

The Ladybug tips for 2015 Summer Sales!

Sales Milan 1

Like every year, a new sale season has started and like every year I plan a post on the subject that I have never published so far for many different reasons! It seems that this year I have the occasion to say something about sales, so let’s start with a few but important rules:

  1. “Just get what you need”: I know that we don’t really need anything as our closets are full of clothes but when I say “need” I mean it in a girly way. How many times did we say: “I need a pair of black shoes to go with my trousers” or “I need a camel bag because I only have black bags”? that’s the “need” that I mean! Most of the times when we are lost into a shop during the sales we are tempted to buy all the nice things that we see even if we don’t really need them and we end up buying things that we won’t use when we can just save that money to buy things that we really “need to buy”. So, make a list of what we “need” and add things during the non-sale times whenever you use the “I need…” phrase: when the sales arrive you will know already what you “need”!
  2. “Make a limited use of high street shops”: high street is for regular use, as most of the times they sell things that we can more or less afford during the year. But how many things did we see that were out of our budget? Well, sales are the right time to buy that specific piece that you coveted during the year but that you couldn’t buy. Now that it is on sale you may be lucky enough to still find it in your size and at a price that you can afford. For this, don’t forget to save money during the year though!
  3. “You can survive only one huge sales session with limited but targeted shops list, not more”: as you may know, going around during the sales may be very depressing; women lose their cool at this time of the year and most of the times the long queueing outside the fitting rooms can be exhausting. This is why you cannot survive more shopping sessions during the sales; so pick up a day (first or second day of sales are better), prepare a list of the shops to visit and go for it all day. Once you are done, don’t repeat one week later! Ok, if you want you can repeat in case of further reductions but in that case you won’t probably be as lucky as during the first days and you won’t find almost anything left.
  4. “Go vintage”: Vintage shops do sales too! So, make sure that they are on top of your list of shops that you need to visit so if you don’t find your “perfect match” there, you can try somewhere else!

Sales Milan 2

These are my top four rules during sales, but if we want to go more in detail about summer sales 2015 here are a couple of pieces that you can buy now and that you shouldn’t miss:

  1. The circle skirt: it has been a trend of this summer fashion and be sure that you will use it again and again for a long time, so if you didn’t get one before it’s time to do it!
  2. The white sneakers: if like me you hesitated and resisted so far, I think that we must surrender and accept that they won! From Adidas Stan Smith, to Nike or Pinko the white sneakers are the winners and you need a pair too (I have an original vintage Adidas and I just decided that I’m wearing them again!)
  3. The 50’s inspired bikini: one of the pieces that must be in every summer sales list is a swimsuit; most of the times you can buy one just before going on holiday and for a reduced price, so why buying one before? If you can go for an original vintage piece it would be amazing as their shapes and materials are just top but if you can’t find anything just go for a retro inspired 50’s piece: your body and your neighbors at the beach will thank you for that!
  4. The culottes: essential. Period!
  5. The palazzo pants: this year they were everywhere, the colored palazzo pants are the undisputed princes of the summer and the 70’s vibe that goes with them will make them a piece to buy for further use!
  6. The pointy heeled shoes: a classic! Just change colors at every sales until you feel that you have enough!
  7. Shoes: always! Use without moderation!

For my summer sales session in Milan I wore: Cos black shirt, thrifted striped pants from Epiphany Vintage in Frankfurt, Lolita Milano flats, Michael Kors bucket bag, Valentino sunglasses and lovely handmade necklace from Le Cosine di Pape!
