The Ladybug Queues Next: Next Vintage in Belgioioso!

The Ladybug Chronicles - Next Vintage Belgioioso 13

If you used to going to vintage fairs quite often, for years, the risk is that you may become… blasé.

But there are some fairs that bring a bit more to the table. They’re the same, but different at the same time. One of these, for sure, is Next Vintage in Belgioiso. I don’t go twice a year as they organize a Spring and Autumn edition, but indeed at least once a year, I need to be there.

The atmosphere in Belgioioso has that certain something that you don’t find everywhere: maybe the location (the wonderful Belgioioso castle and garden that by itself worth a visit), maybe the selection of stallers from vintage to handmade, maybe the good vintage that can be found there, whatever it is… I think that if you love vintage you must go there!

It may not be easy to find a bargain there: I find it a bit pricey (especially some sellers who honestly sell over the regular price), but you can for sure admire many rare and hard-to-find pieces from different eras.

This edition, a wonderful expo featuring Roberta di Camerino vintage pieces was offered to the visitors. The pieces came mostly from the Fondazione Sartirana Arte and from different vintage dealers (like A.N.G.E.L.O., Vintage Art, Aloe & Wolf, Viola vintage and many Others)…a dream for every vintage lover! I’ve never seen a lot of her pieces in real life, but those exposed there were absolutely amazing. The connection between them was the use of the “trompe-l’oeil” technique, very popular at the time and in her creations, and perfectly managed by the designer most of the time.

And for me, it was time for some shopping too: I got a late ’70s vintage doctor bag from Sculptures to Wear and a lovely handmade beret from Madame S, whom I met for the first time. She makes amazing headpieces and like me, usually attends fairs and vintage events.

I also modeled for my friend Angela, of Sculptures to Wear, some of my favorite bags from her amazing vintage collection.

For the warm afternoon I wore my Rolling Stones’ tee from a charity shop in London (I got it for a few pounds in Oxfam, if I’m not wrong), vintage skirt from the Montagnola in Bologna, Marco Brogues and Cavalli & Nastri vintage bag from the ’70s.

By the way, I am also wearing my new Miu Miu glasses… since I found out that I need glasses, I decided to go for an eccentric pair of retro inspired cat-eye frames… what do you think?

The Ladybug “Does the Right Thing” at Fa’ La Cosa Giusta!

The Ladybug Chronicles-Do the Right Thing 08

A few weeks ago I read on Internet two good articles: first thing was about one of my favorite fairs coming to town for the weekend; the second was about a new book that I wanted to get and its author presenting it in town that same weekend. Only later did I realized that the two events were actually happening at the same time/place!

I am still hanging around with my broken finger, but as I missed the “Fa’ la cosa giusta” fair last year I didn’t want to miss it again this year: if you are in Milan, I am pretty sure that you know about it as it represents the most important fair about critical consumerism and sustainable lifestyle. This was the 11th edition and it was as successful as the others which means that maybe, people are finally becoming interested in a new way of living and consuming with a more critical eye on our daily actions and on the impacts that they can have on our environment.

I was very surprised about all that could be found there: from sustainable ways of traveling or organizing your wedding, to recycling and reusing objects by giving new life to what we don’t need to throw away and not to mention clean and healthy eating: there is a way to take care of ourselves and of others in everything that we do.

Of course I was pretty much into food: not only because I am a food lover, but mostly because I decided to start a new healthier way of eating since coming to Milan (where fruits and veggies usually don’t taste like fruits and veggies!), one that is more conscious and more critical, which is the best decision I could have ever made in my life! I am still eating meat on my path through “I am what I eat.” Still, my dietary journey is ever changing and evolving and I can’t deny that I am tempted by vegetarianism or even veganism even if I know that this kind of choice needs more time and meditation for me! I am very open and curious toward these ideas and I keep adding new elements to my diet that I discover through vegan blogs and recipes.

This is why, when I read that my adored Paola Maugeri (a woman that I’ve loved since I was a teenager and MTV addict) was presenting her new book of vegan recipes Las Vegans, at Fa’ la cosa giusta, I decided to head to the fair that Sunday to have the chance to listen to her… which was a great idea!

Paola was smarter and more charming and charismatic than I expected and her fight for the social acceptance of veganism really drew me in. I bought her book (and started using the nutritional yeast that she mentioned a couple of times!).  I had the chance to talk to her about the best places to shop for healthy food in Milan and I received a great compliment from her regarding my ’80s look!

By the way… do you know that she is a vintage lover? I remember meeting her at the airport some time ago wearing an amazing vintage head-to-toe ’70s outfit!!

Here I’m wearing Replay jeans, vintage trophy jacket from Montagnola market in Bologna, Isabel Marant boots, my Pushkin bag from Saint Petersburg and vintage YSL frames from Oggetti Smarriti.

The Ladybug Takes A Sip of the All White Love Potion: the P.A.R.O.S.H. Boutique in Milan

Last week I decided to take advantage of a beautiful – yet cold – day to have a relaxing tour of the fashionistas’ (not mine!) favorite part of Milan: the Quadrilatero della Moda. For those who’ve never heard, it is just a part of the city center tucked between four big streets- where all the most important luxury shops have their Italian headquarters. Of course it is also the most exciting area during fashion week (which is not too long from now!) and if you take a stroll on a peaceful Saturday in the early afternoon, you’ll have the chance to have a proper look at the windows and do some serious… daydreaming!

It was during one of these strolls that I take every now and then that I fell in love. Yes, it took a few seconds for me to realize that it was one of those “love at first sight” things, but I stopped at that window completely breathless! The lucky window was of a new shop that I’ve never seen before, but heard a lot about in the past: P.A.R.O.S.H.

I headed in like Alice in Wonderland and I was about to leave my entire check there!

But let’s start from the beginning. P.A.R.O.S.H. was just a name so far for me; I remember seeing it in the fashion magazines, but I didn’t know anything about the story. When I got home I jumped online to know more about it. When I read what it was about, I understood why I fell in love so easily!

The label was born by the most eclectic mind of Paolo Rossello, a real vintage lover and treasure hunter all over the world. For more than 25 years he has traveled the vintage markets of the whole globe looking for vintage treasure to give new life to with his magical touch! The meaning of the label is indeed PAolo ROssello Second Hand. And believe me, his second hand is to die for! It seems that he is also a buyer of the second hand market La Montagnola, in Bologna, where I first fell in love with vintage many years ago when still a student at the University of Bologna.

His shop is an explosion of colors, furs and sequins in the simple clear white walls. It’s truly a magical place! The inspirations are of every kind: from the cocktails gowns that make you look like a princess from another era, to the lovely ’50s circle skirts or the geometrical prints of the ’60s. Everything (or almost) is rigorously vintage and re-invented with the most beautiful and precious textiles and creativity. There are also modern pieces, but with a wonderful retro touch that makes you forget about them not being real vintage!

If you are around, don’t miss the opportunity to visit (and buy!) from this beautiful shop on via Santo Spirito, 14… You won’t regret it! Prices are a quite high (but not impossible!).
