The Ladybug is still in the shadow but very close to the light…

One day my friend Ilaria (the artistic mind behind Madame Ilary and Heka Couture brands) called me to say that she created a tee that I would have loved. She didn’t say more and invited me to her showroom to see it in person. When I arrived there I recognized it among many others: the “girl-with-a-turban” black tee was indeed perfect for me!

How to wear it then if not with a turban? Better if from Madame Ilary spring collection in soft navy lurex that matched perfectly my new Zara striped lurex skirt!

As I wore it on a Saturday morning I made it casual with white sneakers from Nike at & Other Stories, Michael Kors black bucket bag and my afro comb brass necklace from Afrohemien.

PS: I really like the shadow/light effects of this set of pictures, it represented a lot the situation where I found myself when they were taken. Still in the shadow but very close to the light…

The Ladybug received a beautiful vintage gift…

Carmen is one of my best friends since we were students at University: we have been sharing moments, experiences, smiles and tears since the end of the 90’s meaning that our friendship can be considered almost vintage!

I don’t see her often as she doesn’t live in Italy but during our trips we always try to meet somewhere in the world just to spend some time together and to get updated with each other life news live instead of texts and expensive international phone calls!

A few weeks ago she came to see me in Milan and she brought me two beautiful gifts: her adorable dog and a beautiful vintage dress from Germany! Regarding the latter she told me: I didn’t know how to wear it, then I thought you would!

I accepted the challenge and I wore it straight away: long dresses are my passion and I can’t wear them without a statement necklace. This time I decided to wear two pieces that I found in two different markets: a Nepalese silver necklace and a leather black one.

I also imagined it with a pair of white sneakers (mine are Nike for & Other Stories) just to make it more versatile for a Saturday afternoon stroll in the city center.

The Ladybug on her first day back in Milan (summer holidays are nearly over)

The Ladybug Chronicles Festival Dress (5)

It is too hard to be back after summer holidays: I love being back in town but getting back to old life is just too much for me right now! Leaving the bed in the morning only to go to the beach is already an old memory and it is hard to get back to the ordinary life, but the good news is that the weather is still good, sometimes even warm and my holidays are not totally over, actually they WERE not totally over when I stepped out in this new summery outfit for my first Saturday morning in Milan!

I must confess that maybe my outfit was too summery for that Saturday morning on my way to the market to buy fresh fruits and vegetables, because I got ill two days later – but I guess you don’t really care about that!!

Anyway, not afraid of the fresh air and totally feeling like in my warm Sicily, I decided to wear this new dress from Please that I bought during the summer holidays. I have been looking for a fresh, colored festival dress for a while now but I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for, which is a colored long dress, not too open on the front or with thin straps because I never really feel at ease with that in town (don’t ask me why, I just don’t feel it!) and with a hint of 70’s inspiration.

When I found this dress it just felt perfect for me: I loved the warm colors, the deep V on the back and the ethnic and 70’s vibes; it was also on sale so I got it for a little price…could I ask for more?! I don’t think so!

I wore it with my Nike 4 & Other Stories white sneakers (my second feet!) , Miu Miu handbag and handmade beaded earrings from my auntie’s shop Soleiado in Lampedusa.

PS: Yes, my hair is shorter and curlier now! 🙂

The Ladybug goes “Untitled” (How does it feel…)

D'Angelo (7)

Year 2000. I was still a student at University. One afternoon, during a break from preparing an exam, I decided to make a cup of tea. Kettle on, television on (on MTV, of course!)…a new music video launches: Untitled (How does it feel) by D’Angelo. I remember that I needed a chair and started staring at the screen with some pleasure and desire during the whole song. I think that I will never forget that day for the rest of my life. It was the day I decided that D’Angelo was the hottest man alive on earth and I haven’t changed my mind in the last 15 years, although he became almost unrecognizable for a while!

Since then I had the urgent need to see him in concert somewhere (which failed to happen a few years ago in London) but I had to wait until a few weeks ago, when he performed in Milan at the Estathé Market Sound Festival. It was one of the hottest days of the year but nothing could stop me from being there! The concert was great, even if a bit short, and his voice really incredible! Let me say that the best moment of the show was the end, when he performed a long version (almost 15 minutes) of Untitled causing fainting, shivering and for sure greatest pleasure!

I wore a black dress by COS, Nike 4 & Other Stories white sneakers, vintage red quilted bag by Frendo Vintage and a Marc by Marc Jacobs cherry necklace-watch.
